Qualification for bariatric surgery is based largely on a calculation called your Body Mass Index (BMI). This calculation is determined by your height and weight.

Your BMI gives you an understanding of the level of risk to your health.  Patients with a BMI greater than 30 are considered obese and are at risk for developing serious health issues, including diabetes, hypertension, hyperlipemia, and heart disease.
