In the Laparoscopic Sleeve Gastrectomy, the stomach is resected and reshaped to create a narrower passage, or “sleeve”. This allows a patient to eat very small meals and to still feel satisfied. It also helps to control hunger between meals. Most patients will lose at least 60-65% of their excess weight after this procedure, and, like the gastric bypass, experience a high rate of improvement in comorbidities such as diabetes, hypertension, high cholesterol, and obstructive sleep apnea.
